- Necessary skills:
Ability to play hymns, service music, and special music of moderate difficulty.
Experience with and basic knowledge of church music both traditional and contemporary
Ability to read contemporary lead sheets
Flexibility, sight-reading, and improvisatory abilities desired.
Ability to work collaboratively with others.
Possess good organizational and communication skills.
This position does not include liturgical music planning. - Anticipated time commitment:
Playing 2 Services a month (Call 9am and Service 10am) alternating with Organist and Bells Choir, occasionally playing additional Sunday during months with 5 Sundays
Rehearse with the Choir and the Praise team weekly on Wednesday night from 7-9pm (7pm call for Praise team and 8pm call for Choir)
During summer months (June-Labor Day Sunday) the choir and bells do not rehearse or participate in worship. Praise Band continues to play. Summer playing duties can be arranged between pianist and organist to allow for planned vacations.
Additional time may be required for special church services and church holidays, especially Christmas and Holy Week. - Responsibilities/Duties:
Accompany choir or Praise team during designated Sunday Services (9am Call and 10am service) alternating Sundays with other musical groups throughout the year.
Occasionally responsible for selection and preparation of appropriate service music including: prelude, offertory, postlude, and music during distribution of Communion elements when Organist is not scheduled or with Praise Team.
Play as scheduled for special services, TBD.
Play for choir practice and praise team practice (currently on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00pm).
Play, for extra compensation to be provided by those requesting services, for weddings, funerals, memorial services, as needed.
Arrange for acceptable substitute when unable to attend, with approval from music director.
