Location: Boston, MA or Chicago, IL preferred (Remote-first with occasional in-office availability; exceptional fully-remote candidates will be considered)
Scope of Work: Full Time (35-45 hours per week, flex-time eligible)
Salary: Starting range: $55,000-$64,000 (with annual increases)

About The Narrative Project:
The Narrative Project (read more) is a new effort of the Christian Century (CC), the flagship journal of the American ecumenical movement. We are a progressive, independent religious magazine devoted to helping people think critically and live the Christian faith thoughtfully. Find out more about our historic legacy and current work. Through a variety of programmatic activities, this ambitious venture will empower faith-based storytellers and scholars, foster community engagement, and cultivate a richer culture of religious storytelling in the United States.
Position Summary
Administrative Coordinator will play a critical role in helping launch this effort and, thereafter, supporting the day-to-day operations of The Narrative Project. This position requires an exceptionally detail-oriented individual with excellent administrative and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized, driven self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Help us launch: Compare, recommend, and engage preferred vendors; assist designer in website build/maintenance, maintain social media presence, develop operating procedures, troubleshoot and streamline as the project progresses
- Event Planning: Assist in the planning and oversight of significant events, including booking venues, travel planning, and managing event budgets
- Logistics & Operations: Make reservations for off-site meetings, manage travel arrangements for program staff and participants, reserve equipment and conference rooms
- Website Management: Regularly update and maintain the project website, including content creation and updates, and assist with website construction: strong familiarity with WordPress or similar platform is essential
- Calendar Management: Manage project calendars, schedule meetings, and send out reminders
- Financial Support: Data entry to process invoices for vendors and reimbursements for staff and program participants; working closely with the CC’s Director of Finance to designate expenses appropriately and to maintain program financial records. Monitor and approve some program expenditures
- Communications: Respond to general inquiry emails and phone calls
- General Office Support: Help prepare mailings and reports, proofread and copy documents, manage the purchase and distribution of materials, coordinate between different project teams
- Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications:

- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and WordPress
- Proximity to Boston, MA or Chicago, IL (preferred)
