The Presbytery of Chicago gathered for its stated meeting on Thursday, November 18 at Yorkfield Presbyterian Church in Elmhurst (and brought donations to their diaper ministry). The meeting exploring the theme of “Risk-Taking in Community” with a holy conversation that shared the story of Friendship Presbyterian Church in Chicago and Risk-Taking Solidarity Conversations that gave participants a chance to talk with each other about the risks involved in missional activities, space sharing, caring for immigrant siblings, and more. Worship was woven into the meeting with song, a risk-taking liturgy, and an offering for the presbytery’s Solidarity Support Fund. And, we shared in Yorkfield’s gracious hospitality and took a break for lunch to enjoy taco Tuesday!
Here’s an overview of the business we covered at this jam-packed assembly:
- We welcomed several new pastors into the presbytery and celebrated the retirements of Rev. Kristie Finley, Rev. Bill Evertsberg, and Rev. Paul Gilmore.
- The assembly dissolved the administrative commission for Sixth-Grace and approved the formation of an AC for North Branch Bible Church.
- Nominations for presbytery entities were approved.
- Approved a Call to Action: Invitation to Creative Action and Stubborn Hope
- Approved a Parish Associate Policy
- Approved an increase in minimum terms of call
- Approved a request for an alternative origination examination for an inquirer under care
- Celebrated the completed ministry for Evanshire Presbyterian Church in Skokie, with a legacy gift given to McCormick Theological Seminary
