The Presbytery of Chicago's End Hunger and Homelessness Mission Team addresses these two issues from many angles:
- EHHMT provides direct supplemental funding to Chicago-area organizations and agencies that seek to relieve or end hunger and homelessness.
Organizations and agencies applying for funding must complete the EHHMT application. Follow this link to the application.
- EHHMT partners with RELUFA in Cameroon through Chicago Joining Hands (newsletter)
- The EHHMT approves and recommends a curriculum addressing all aspects of hunger. It is provided by the Presbyterian Hunger Program in partnership with Church World Service and Advocate Health Care.
- EHHMT works with many Presbyterian Church (USA) groups to end hunger:
- EHHMT works with other local and national organizations. These agencies are available to provide resources, educational events, and ministry opportunities and experiences for congregations:
Two Extra Giving Opportunities
Cooperative Grain Banks: Cameroonian Joining Hands partners assist subsistence farmers in vulnerable villages to secure revolving food stocks by creating community-run grain banks: Will you help stock a granary?
$2,500 will initially stock a granary with 100 – 100 kilo bags of grain, and provde training and accompaniment.
Can’t put together $2,500? How about $25 for one bag of grain which will feed a family of six for one month, bridging them through the lean season.
The PCUSA Presbyterian Hunger Program ECO number is H000128. Name: Cameroon Food Sovereignty Program.
Credit Against Poverty: Cameroonian Joining Hands partners provide seed money for income generating projects of poor communities through the Credit Against Poverty (CAP) program. Will you help increase their loan portfolio?
$100 will enable a student to set up a Summer break project and ensure next year’s studies.
$500 will provide a village starting up a husbandry project.
$1,000 for a urban women’s group to open a restaurant next to a hospital.
$2,000 for a rural women’s group to buy an oven and utensils to dry fruits that otherwise are wasted in the village.

ALL CHILDREN ARE A GIFT FROM GOD |
At its meeting on February 13, 2007, the Presbytery Assembly adopted a Child Protection Policy that governs all activities sponsored by or under the control of the presbytery. This includes retreats, mission projects (AWOL) and all the summer programs that happen at our camp in Saugatuck, Michigan. This policy is recommended to sessions of churches to use as a model for their own safe child policy. Questions may be directed to Loretta Gratias-Bremer at loretta@chicagopresbytery.org or 312.243.8300 ext. 1330.

Peace and Justice in Israel and Palestine
Exploring Phased Selective Divestment
The Presbytery of Chicago spent a significant amount of time reflecting on the actions of the 216th General Assembly concerning peace and justice in Israel and Palestine from December 2004 - October 2005.. The Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Work Group provided a series of presentations at Presbytery Assembly meetings to inform the Presbytery about the actions as the Assembly considered possible responses. To further assist the Presbytery, the Work Group prepared a study document that focuses primarily on the most contentious of these decisions, the resolution concerning the use of phased selective divestment in Israel and Palestine.
The following documents are available in the "Middle East Resources" section of the Resources for Congregations page of this website: An Invitation to Commissioners, the Study Document, and Appendices to the Study Document; The Presbytery of Chicago Overture to the 217th General Assembly "In Service of a Just and Peaceful To-State Solution in the MIddle East" and a copy of the overture adopted by the 217th General Assembly. There is a fresh look and a new organization to the information on the site and new features, such as the calendar of events. While the majority of the site is operational, selected areas are still under development. Please be patient as these are finalized.
A key attribute of the web site is the dynamic content of each web page. “Groups” will manage content and depending on the group or groups to which the viewer is assigned, content may or may not be visible. The enabling feature of this attribute is a new, centralized database of all clergy and commissioners. Going forward, this will be the single source of information concerning these individuals. Bringing together multiple separate files of clergy information and ensuring their accuracy is time consuming.
As with any web site, accurate information is critical to its success. Please e-mail Calendar updates for Presbytery events and news article updates to Adele Hensley.
We hope you find the new site useful and informative.
