Boundary Training
The Presbytery of Chicago is dedicated to helping congregations and minister members set their sights on healthy relationships, establish safe boundaries, and find their way to trust, truth, honesty, and love as Christ’s church.
The Presbytery of Chicago requires all ministers, ministerial candidates and inquirers, Honorably Retired pastors, Certified Christian Educators, members of the Presbytery Coordinating Commission, moderators of any of the presbytery’s entities, and all Presbytery of Chicago employees and volunteers to attend, annually, an in-person or online class on healthy boundaries.
This annual requirement supersedes all previous boundary training requirements from previous years in the Presbytery of Chicago.

Options to Complete the Annual Requirement
Please refer to the Life Together/Safe Boundaries policy for more information on the Presbytery of Chicago boundary training requirements for all who serve in the presbytery. Also, please refer to the first page of Basics of Harassment regarding the prevention and responding to harassment.
Following our “Life Together / Safe Boundaries Policy” (available above), annual boundary training is required for all Presbytery of Chicago Minister Members and staff members who are engaged in any form of active ministry, including anyone on the Pulpit Supply List. Our focus this year will be “Not Your Average Boundary Training” – with a strategy to help us foster emotional resiliency and well-being. The workshops will certainly cover the basics, and will also help participants manage their own stress in order to maintain balance and perspective when temptations arise. The program will include a 4-part strategy and a personal prevention plan, all led by LeaderWise.
There are four options to complete the Presbytery of Chicago’s annual boundary training requirement.
The Presbytery is sponsoring Options # 1 and # 2. You may also arrange for and attend another boundary training event (Option # 3 or # 4). For Questions, please contact Stated Clerk Ken Hockenberry, or Commission on Ministry Moderator Julie Peterson.
